You know about my recent trip to Key West here, here, and here. One night, after dinner with friends, sitting around the outdoor dining room table, they shared stories about their COVID trip pulling an RV trailer from Key West to Colorado to Disney—specifically Fort Wilderness—and back. They made incredible memories, despite some scary hairpin turns driving up and around the Rockies. Afterward, I told them about our trip to Fort Wilderness as a kid. “I remember one time we pulled in around midnight in our Winnebago,” I told them. “Parked at the reservation building, we ran inside with my … [Read more...]

Would You Rent an Electric Vehicle?
Hertz Global has announced that it will buy up to 65,000 Polestar electric vehicles for its fleet of rental cars. These aren't the first electric cars available from Hertz, but will represent a significant increase. Will car renters be willing to rent a vehicle with fewer opportunities to top up? The Wall Street Journal's Nora Eckert reports: Hertz Global Holdings Inc. agreed to purchase up to 65,000 electric vehicles over five years from the Swedish auto maker Polestar, part of the rental-car company’s goal of expanding its plug-in offerings. NO GO ZONES: The Cities of Yesterday Are Dead
The cities of yesterday are dead. Don’t just take my word for it. Look around. Take NYC, where foot traffic is a fraction of what it was. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a way forward. It comes with making sections of cities small towns where residents control what it’s like to live there. Imagine farmer’s markets, outdoor seating, safety, and an involved citizenry. There will be a fine line between places in the cities you’ll want to stay and visit and the NO GO ZONES, much like Paris, France. It will happen. Stick with me. The Wall Street Journal reports (abridged): People want to live in … [Read more...]

But for today, let’s tackle some of these and get into this. As I’ve said before, investing is more of an art than a science. As we all know, you can’t always follow “the science.” In other words, glossy financial plans or … [Read more...]
Raiding the SPR Is a Failure for “Foreign Policy Expert” Joe Biden
Joe Biden has long been touted as a "foreign policy expert," after his years of service on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, even serving as the committee's ranking member. In the Financial Times, Derek Brower and Myles McCormick report that it was a failure of foreign policy that has driven Biden to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The failure was Biden's inability to convince Persian Gulf oil-producing states to pump more oil. They write: Joe Biden’s decision to unleash a torrent of crude from the emergency US reserve is a gamble that he can tame petrol prices in time for … [Read more...]
