In response to COVID-19 and the rioting and crime spree that began during the Summer of 2020, residents began fleeing New York City at a faster rate. Those New Yorkers who still live in the city are going to decide soon who will be their mayor for the next four years.
The city’s current mayor, Eric Adams, has announced that he plans to run as an independent after being elected as a Democrat. This week, Democrats chose their own candidate, Zohran Mamdani, a radical even by Democrat standards. President Trump reacted to Democrats’ choice by saying they had “crossed a line,” writing on Truth Social:
It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous. He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him. Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!
What’s so terrifying about Mamdani’s policies? Here’s just a sample from the NY Post:
Mamdani wants to cut New York’s sky-high housing costs. And he’ll do it by stacking the Rent Guidelines Board with cronies who will follow through on his promise to “freeze the rent.”
That might ease the burden on New Yorkers living under rent control (if it survives judicial scrutiny). But it will lead to more controlled apartments sitting vacant — driving costs up for the two-thirds of New Yorkers who aren’t protected.
Zohran Mamdani wants to spend $65M on trans medical treatment — including for minors — if elected NYC mayor
He wants to deal with food costs and the prevalence of “food deserts” by creating government-run grocery stores. These will cut into corporate stores’ allegedly usurious profit margins (barely 1 to 2 percent).At least, that’s the idea. In reality, they’ll run about as well as other public services — and eventually demand a taxpayer bailout, adding to New Yorkers’ bills.
Mamdani wants to pay for all this by taxing New York’s rich. It’s a line straight from Mamdani endorser Bernie Sanders.
But millionaires already pay 41% of the state’s income taxes, and the city in particular is dependent on the jobs brought by the big corporations Mamdani wants to tax.
