Paul Berger of The Wall Street Journal reports that the Port of Baltimore expects to reopen most operations in a week as the containership, the Dali, is removed from the site of the wrecked Francis Scott Key Bridge. He writes:
The Port of Baltimore expects to resume most operations next week following a controlled demolition this weekend to free the Dali containership from the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
Demolition crews are planting explosives on an outer section of an eight- to 12-million-pound steel truss that has been lying across the Dali’s bow since the ship plowed into a support pillar in the early hours of March 26.
The explosions planned for Saturday afternoon are intended to break off a section of the truss so the Dali can be moved to a nearby berth where the remaining bridge debris, as well as some of the nearly 4,500 shipping containers onboard, can be removed. […]
Authorities say the Dali, which is owned by Grace Ocean of Singapore, is expected to stay at a berth in Baltimore for a few weeks for temporary repairs. The containership is then expected to sail to another East Coast port for more extensive repairs.
