South Korea has unveiled a 1,000 trillion won ($747 billion) energy transition plan aimed at expanding renewable energy, cutting emissions, and strengthening clean-energy industries through 2035.

The K-GX strategy includes 200 trillion won in government spending, more than 790 trillion won in climate finance, and 220 trillion won in planned private investment, Reuters reports. The government targets 100 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030 and aims for electric and hydrogen vehicles to account for more than 70% of new vehicle sales by 2035.

The plan also focuses on decarbonizing major industries including steel, petrochemicals, refining, cement and semiconductors. South Korea plans to develop green steel, advanced batteries, hydrogen, solar and wind power, carbon capture and small modular reactors, while building domestic clean-energy supply chains.
