The IEA World Energy Outlook 2025 highlights a decisive global shift toward an “age of electricity,” driven by rapid growth in renewables, electrification, and digital energy systems. Electricity demand is projected to increase by around 40% by 2035, driven by the growth of electric vehicles, data centers, and industrial electrification. Solar and wind power are expected to provide more than half of the world’s electricity by 2035, while nuclear energy is experiencing a steady revival. At the same time, fossil fuel demand is expected to peak before 2030, with coal and oil use plateauing as nations adopt cleaner technologies. The report warns of growing supply chain and energy security risks, particularly regarding critical minerals, and emphasizes the need to ensure universal access to and affordability of energy. Overall, the WEO 2025 calls for more decisive policy action and investment to achieve a sustainable, secure, and inclusive global energy transition. Read the report here.
