President Trump announced that US forces bombed Iran’s Kharg Island, hitting military targets while sparing oil facilities, the heart of Iran’s export economy. The strikes destroyed missile bunkers, naval mine storage, and other sites, aiming to prevent Iran from reinforcing defenses, according to The Washington Post. Iran reported damage to military sites and the airport, but no casualties.

The attack comes amid halted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and rising global oil prices. Meanwhile, a Marine expeditionary unit has been deployed to the Middle East, enhancing US amphibious capabilities.

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the US targeted only Iran’s military sites on Kharg Island, not oil facilities, to neutralize threats in the Strait of Hormuz. He acknowledged short-term disruptions to oil flows and prices but said the strait will reopen soon, with US and allied forces prepared to secure it.
