The Golden Pass LNG terminal shipped its first liquefied natural gas cargo on April 22, 2026, shortly after beginning production, becoming the only new US LNG export facility expected to start shipments this year. Backed by QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil, the project overcame delays caused by a contractor’s bankruptcy in 2024, according to the US Energy Information Administration.
Once fully operational, the facility will have a capacity of up to 2.4 Bcf/d, making it one of the largest LNG export terminals in the US, behind Sabine Pass LNG and Plaquemines LNG. Its launch comes at a time of global supply uncertainty tied to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
