The US Department of Energy has proposed changes to permanently revise the federal process for setting energy efficiency standards for household appliances, aiming to reduce regulations that the Trump administration says increase costs and limit consumer choice. The proposal would affect household appliances and equipment, including air conditioning units, gas stoves, washing and drying machines, water heaters, refrigerators, and other products Americans rely on every day.
The Department says the changes are intended to preserve consumer choice, improve transparency in rulemaking, and support more affordable appliances. The proposal is now open for public comment, alongside a separate request for input on how future energy conservation standards should be developed.
