The Dutch central bank, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), moved 86 tons of gold from New York and Ottawa to London between March and August 2026, citing rising geopolitical tensions and the need to make its reserves more quickly accessible during a crisis, according to Fortune.
DNB holds about 612 tons of gold, with roughly 18.5% still stored in North America. The relocation has raised questions about confidence in U.S. financial markets and the dollar’s traditional safe-haven role. However, the move itself does not directly affect markets because the gold remains held as part of the Netherlands’ reserves.
