NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, bringing the open AI platform and its large developer community into NVIDIA. Hugging Face has more than 18 million users, hosts over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications, and is used by more than 200,000 companies.
The companies say Hugging Face will remain an open, multi-cloud and multi-accelerator platform, meaning developers will not be required to use NVIDIA hardware. NVIDIA says the acquisition will help expand Hugging Face’s infrastructure, reliability, model evaluation, inference, and deployment capabilities while supporting open-source and open-weight AI development.
The deal would deepen NVIDIA’s role in the broader AI ecosystem, building on its existing contributions of more than 500 models and 250 open datasets to Hugging Face. The companies say the combination will make AI more accessible while preserving the open platform and community that have made Hugging Face a major hub for AI developers.
