Keira Wright of Bloomberg reports that Australia’s world-leading rooftop solar adoption is fueling a boom in residential battery installations, as homeowners increasingly pair solar panels with battery storage to store excess power and cut electricity costs. The surge reflects both strong consumer demand and market conditions that make batteries more attractive, helping drive growth in behind-the-meter energy storage and support Australia’s broader transition to renewable power. Wright tells her readers:

Australian households — already world leaders in the number of rooftop solar panels per capita — installed as many batteries in the second half of 2025 as they did during the previous five years combined.

More than 180,000 home battery units were sold in the six months, four times more than in the same period of the prior year, the Clean Energy Council said in a report.  […]
