Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plans to mass‑produce advanced 3‑nanometre chips at its Kumamoto, Japan facility, marking a major step in expanding cutting‑edge semiconductor manufacturing outside Taiwan, according to Reuters. Local media reported the investment could reach about $17 billion, significantly upgrading earlier plans for the site and aligning with strong global demand for AI and high‑performance chips. Japan’s government, which has subsidized TSMC’s operations in Kyushu, is considering additional support for the project. The announcement also comes as TSMC continues broader global capacity builds, including future 3 nm production in Arizona. They write:
