DP World is planning a new port and container terminal in Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast to reduce reliance on its Jebel Ali hub and bypass the vulnerable Strait of Hormuz, according to the Financial Times.
The move follows major shipping disruptions caused by the Iran conflict, which sharply reduced traffic through the strait and impacted Jebel Ali operations. The new facilities would allow cargo to enter and leave the UAE through the Gulf of Oman before moving by land to Dubai and other Gulf markets.
The project is part of a broader UAE effort to strengthen economic resilience, though Jebel Ali will remain a key logistics hub.
