Your Survival Guy is all about America First, and if President Trump’s tariffs move our economy in that direction, then give me more tariffs. There needs to be a course correction on how the world economy prioritizes business. Tariffs can set that tone.

Enough with the corporations and countries talking about climate change. If corporations focus on delivering earnings to shareholders, and countries do not tax and spend their way to ruin the world would be a better place.

OK, that’s off my chest. Good luck with that Survival Guy, right? While I’m at it, free trade and globalization were shoved down my throat in college. Now, when I drive to our cabin in New Hampshire, rural towns that used to be able to survive, not necessarily prosper, are gutted. Buildings are abandoned, and the manufacturing that left isn’t coming back. But tariffs do send the message to a world that needs to get back on track: business first, and lower taxes.

My Cato Institute friend Gene Healy writes that the office of the president has become too powerful. He wrote the book on it. I don’t like it when he comes out against Trump’s tariffs, but he has a point that the power of the presidency has become too powerful. My concern? What happens if a guy like socialist Zohran Mamdani gets in?

And I wish Congress was full of smart, pro-business individuals not folk trying to advance their careers, which is a problem on both sides of the aisle.

What we are stuck with is opportunism: Those in power taking as much as they can while they can. That doesn’t feel like what the Founders dreamed up.

Action Line: Buckle up. Tariffs can help Make America Great Again, and markets and real money may go along for now. But consider how fast it can all change and invest accordingly. What will be needed, no matter who is in charge? When you want to develop a plan that works for your retirement life and helps smooth out the emotions, let’s talk.
