The International Energy Agency (IEA) report, Energy Technology Supply Chains in Southeast Asia, highlights the region’s growing role in global clean energy manufacturing, driven by rising electricity demand and efforts to strengthen energy security. Southeast Asia’s clean energy technology market reached approximately $25 billion in 2025 and could exceed $80 billion by 2035, fueled by growth in electric vehicles, batteries, and renewable energy.

Electric vehicle and battery manufacturing present significant opportunities, with announced projects expected to expand regional production capacity through 2030. Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam are positioned to benefit from increased investment and export demand.

However, global manufacturing oversupply, changing trade policies, and dependence on foreign technology remain challenges. The IEA emphasizes that targeted industrial policies and international partnerships will be essential for Southeast Asia to strengthen supply chain resilience, attract investment, and establish itself as a competitive clean energy manufacturing hub.
