Just when data analysis of the steel industry became very important to determining its health, China has eliminated a PMI survey that could have shed more light on the industry’s issues, as well as those of other industries. Bloomberg News reports:
The disappearance of data on industries including steel adds to issues hampering analysis of the worldโs second-biggest economy, after fake invoices inflated trade numbers this year. Neither the federationโs nor the statistics bureauโs statement on the manufacturing Purchasing Managersโ Index this week gave readings on export orders, imports and finished-goods inventories or an explanation for the omissions.
โSuspension of the monthly data, without prior notice, makes the research work difficult for us,โ Xu Xiangchun, a steel researcher and chief analyst at Mysteel.com, said by phone from Beijing. โThe random absence of official data is disorienting.โ
