Poland and other European countries are increasingly treating energy infrastructure as a security target amid growing risks from war, sabotage, and cyberattacks linked to the Russia–Ukraine conflict, reports the Insurance Journal.
In Poland, the grid operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne uses surveillance helicopters and advanced sensors to monitor power lines for tampering or threats. Similar measures across Europe include hardening grids, improving drone defenses, and increasing coordination with NATO.
The shift reflects a broader move to treat energy systems as critical national security assets, though it comes with major funding challenges due to aging infrastructure and high modernization costs.
