Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has launched a pilot program using Heimdall Power’s Dynamic Line Rating and asset health monitoring technology to optimize transmission line capacity and improve grid reliability across its service area in northern and central California. With monitoring devices installed and data dashboards active, PG&E is testing how the technology can reduce congestion, enhance resilience to extreme weather, and support growing renewable energy demand, while potentially delivering millions of dollars in annual cost savings if the pilot proves successful. This week, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) announced the successful launch of the Heimdall Power solution as part of a Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) and asset health monitoring pilot. The utility is exploring how Heimdall Power can help it optimize transmission line capacity and proactively monitor asset health across its 70,000-square-mile service area in northern and central California.

With Neurons installed and data dashboards now live, PG&E is testing three solutions, including Heimdall Power’s, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce congestion, enhance reliability, and prepare California’s grid for the challenges of extreme weather and the growing demand for renewable energy.

“This project is a critical step in modernizing California’s grid. Fundamentally, this project is focused on leveraging new technology to save California’s families and businesses money. If this test is successful, we see a path to unlock millions ofdollars per year of cost savings through dynamic line rating and asset health monitoring technologies.”– Mike Delaney, Vice President of Utility Partnerships and Innovation, PG&E

PG&E’s grid modernization project underscores the utility’s position of innovation leadership in the industry.

“It’s an honor to partner with PG&E on work that pushes the entire industry forward,” said Heimdall Power CEO Jørgen Festervoll. “What PG&E is pioneering in California today has the power to redefine how utilities everywhere manage their grids, protect their communities, and power tomorrow’s progress.”
