Natural gas remained the largest source of US energy, rising more than 4% to a record 39 trillion cubic feet, with major gains in the Appalachia, Permian, and Haynesville regions. Crude oil also set a record at 13.6 million barrels per day, largely from the Permian Basin, while NGPLs and renewable energy both reached new highs.
Renewables grew for the fifth straight year, led by solar and wind, while other sources were mostly steady. Coal production rose modestly after previous declines, but still accounted for a smaller share of the overall energy mix.
