The EPA finalized the repeal of most of the Biden administration’s 2024 greenhouse-gas regulations for fossil-fuel power plants and proposed eliminating all remaining federal GHG standards for the power sector. The agency estimates the finalized repeal will save up to $310 billion, with another $370 million in projected compliance savings if the proposed repeal is finalized. EPA says the changes will support coal and natural-gas generation and improve energy affordability and reliability.
The proposal remains subject to a 45-day public comment period and a public hearing. Critics argue the rollback could increase greenhouse-gas emissions and associated health and environmental costs.
