The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has revoked the 2009 endangerment finding, the scientific determination that greenhouse gases such as CO₂ pose a danger to public health and welfare — a legal basis for many climate regulations, including vehicle emissions standards. This repeal removes the regulatory foundation for federal limits on car and truck greenhouse gas emissions, which had guided automakers toward cleaner, more efficient vehicles. The Trump administration calls the move the largest deregulatory action in US history and claims it will reduce costs for consumers and industry.
