OK, here’s the deal. For some of you, even a large swath of you—my client base—the reality of school was this: It wasn’t for you.

Sure, you showed up, but you weren’t really into school. You were into cars, music, and friends. Which brings me to my Special Bonus: When it comes to graduating from work to retirement, like school, you’re just not too into retiring.

You like what you do, and therefore, you will never really retire.

To your dismay my father-in-law Dick Young no longer writes Richard C. Young’s Intelligence Report. That doesn’t mean he’s retired. Far from it.

Not a day goes by that, when I open my email, I don’t find an email from him or receive a phone call.

“Survival Guy,” he states.

“Tell me what your clients are asking.”

Before I can answer, he’ll say, “Tell them what I’m doing. Tell them I’m putting a large sum in this.”

Just yesterday, a long-time client from the Deep South, who runs a successful business with his son, said, “You know, I was talking with my son yesterday and I told him I just can’t relate to what you’re writing about retirement. I’ll never retire because I like coming to the office, and I like what I do.”

“Keep up the good work, though,” he said.

He’s 94 years young.

Action Line: If you find something you love to do, it’s never “work.” You’re lucky. When you’re ready to talk money, I’ll be around. Email me at ejsmith@yoursurvivalguy.com.
