“I can’t wait until I’m retired when I will have time to do what I want to do,” says everyone. And then they retire and wonder where the time went. Hey, it’s life. I know this, and I wish I had the answers to it all. But I’m Your Survival Guy, not Father Time.

We all imagine retirement being easy, like Sunday morning with endless cups of coffee. Sure, there are still plenty of Sundays, but figuring out what to do from Monday through Friday is no easy task.

When you’re working, you have the benefit of “going to work.” You know where you need to be, and someone’s counting on you to show up. When you’re retired, it’s not exactly easy.

You have to make it a good life. You need to create a “new” life, fulfilling your wants and needs while everyone thinks you have “time” to do their honey-dos. Living the dream means prior planning. And walking the highwire with no safety net of a paycheck can make one an emotional wreck. You don’t want them wishing you were at work.

Your Survival Guy understands all of this, and I don’t want you to have to get another job. I want you to take action. Plan those trips. Spend some money. Stuff’s not getting cheaper. Play in that Member Guest. Take that summer vacation. Have fun planning it. And go on those European river cruises.

When I call, and you tell me you need to call me back because you’re on a trip, I know you’re living your life. That’s why you have the money. Enjoy.

Action Line: Looking at your stocks all day may be your hobby. If it’s not, it’s my job. Let’s talk when you’re ready. Email me at ejsmith@yoursurvivalguy.com.
