Nvidia has agreed to provide up to $105 billion in lease-payment guarantees to support OpenAI’s massive new AI data center in Ohio, according to Reuters. Nvidia will also invest $1.5 billion in SB Energy, the SoftBank-backed company developing the facility, and provide access to up to 8 gigawatts of AI computing capacity.
The data center, located in Pike County, Ohio, will be developed under a 20-year lease with OpenAI, with initial capacity expected to come online in 2028. The project is part of OpenAI’s effort to secure enormous amounts of computing power as demand for AI services grows. Nvidia’s involvement also strengthens demand for its own chips, though the scale of the financial backing has raised questions about the increasingly interconnected financing relationships within the AI industry.
