Your Survival Guy Escapes into the City, Uh-Oh

June 11, 2020 By E.J. Smith

Coronavirus Infects Stock Market: Part LVII

Heading into a city and putting your daughter on a plane are not things Your Survival Guy likes doing, nevermind in the middle of a crisis. But sometimes visiting a cousin in Naples, FL is what an eighteen-year-old needs to do for everyone involved.

Becky and I couldn’t help but notice, about thirty miles south of the city, the flashing signs: “If You’re from Out of State We Urge You to Self-Quarantine for Fourteen Days,” which made us wonder: “who in their right mind is going to follow this BS?” Then we passed a car with its driver, all alone, wearing a mask. Come on, people.

Life Comes at You Fast. Slow It Down with My Friday Email. It’s Free.

Walking into the JetBlue terminal, the three of us were instructed to mask-up with zero people in sight. Just us. Maybe the jump in airline stocks is because they’re most profitable when they don’t fly, or they’re sitting on more low priced oil than a Saudi prince.

Driving home, we looked at the neat Ink Block condos that cater to the hipster crowd and wondered, “who’s going to live there now?” Then it occurred to me that maybe the contrarian play is to look for the safest location in cities like Boston, Manhattan, or Paris.

On our last trip to Paris, our visit overlapped the yellow vest protests. We could hear the crowds on Avenue des Champs-Élysées, but rue Saint-Honoré, where we were staying at our favored Le Bristol, was shut down by the police. It helps to be staying a stone’s throw from the president’s residence, Élysée Palace.

Yes, you will be able to visit Paris and other major cities again, but you will need to be wary of the “No Go Zones” that are as close as a street or two away. Much research will need to be done before your Gucci boots hit the ground.

In terms of living in a city, it’s going to take big bucks, with your Hamptons pad, your Cape house, or the Riviera—city living will be iffy at best unless you’ve got serious money.

Study up and learn your area like a realtor before the second wave hits. Based on the signs around Boston, government wants nothing less than to control how you live—plan your escape now.

P.S. San Francisco’s wealthy are already on the move. They’re grabbing up land outside the city like it’s a second coming of the Gold Rush. Bloomberg reports, “Across the San Francisco Bay area — home to some of America’s earliest and strictest shelter-in-place rules — demand for real estate is soaring in outer suburbs and wealthy havens known for their gorgeous landscapes. From affluent Marin County to Napa wine country and south to Monterey’s Carmel Valley, brokers say the coronavirus outbreak is leading to a surge of interest from homebuyers looking to spread out.”

Undoubtedly many of the San Franciscans escaping the city have realized that “Stay Home, Save Lives” was a fraud of epic proportions.

P.P.S. In America’s smaller cities, like Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, patriots have banded together to nip any plans of destruction by Antifa protesters in the bud. The Coeur d’Alene Post Falls Press reports “Men with semi-automatic weapons, handguns say they are here to protect city amid reports of militants heading this way. Reports and rumors that groups bent on rioting and violence in Coeur d’Alene brought out men and women with guns on Monday determined to stop them if they arrive. Dan Carson was patrolling Sherman Avenue with an AR-12 semi-automatic 12-gauge across his chest, an AR-15 strapped to his back, two 9mm handguns holstered and a .38 special, too. “I heard there are some people on the way who shouldn’t be here,” he said early Monday evening.”

P.P.P.S. Meanwhile, in the heart of Seattle, Antifa has created America’s first “no-go zone,” where even police won’t enter. The Blaze reports: “Amid the George Floyd protests and rioting in Seattle, police on Monday were preparing to abandon the East Precinct if necessary and were removing items of value, KCPQ-TV reported. A station journalist, Brandi Kruse, on Tuesday reported that “protesters have dubbed the surrounding blocks an autonomous zone, or more colloquially, ‘Free Capitol Hill.'” According to Democracy Now! the autonomous zone is barricaded and stretches around the boarded-up police precinct building. It appears protesters are claiming the zone as their own — and they apparently don’t take kindly to journalists, particularly ones associated with the Fox Network, as Kruse found out while cellphone video was rolling Monday night.”
