Donald Trump threatened to raise tariffs on Indian exports in response to Indiaโ€™s continued purchase of Russian oil. He accused India of profiting from reselling the oil and disregarding the war in Ukraine. Despite the threat, India, under Prime Minister Modi, remains defiant and has not halted its Russian oil purchases. They write:


Presidentย Donald Trumpย said he would be โ€œsubstantially raisingโ€ the tariff on Indian exports to the US over New Delhiโ€™s purchases of Russian oil, ramping up his threat to target a major trading partner.

โ€œIndia is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits,โ€ Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Monday. โ€œThey donโ€™t care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Modiโ€™s government hasnโ€™t given Indian oil refiners instructions to stop buying Russian oil, and no decision has been taken on whether to halt the purchases, people familiar with the situation told Bloomberg, asking not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter.
