The United States reaffirmed its support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government as fighting between Saudi-led coalition forces and the Houthis intensified. Saudi Arabia carried out airstrikes against Houthi positions around Mocha and other areas, while Yemeni government forces conducted drone attacks. The Houthis also claimed to have shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet, although the claim could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, U.S. officials held direct talks with Houthi representatives in Oman. According to sources cited by Reuters, the Houthis said they did not intend to attack U.S. vessels and remained committed to the 2025 ceasefire with the United States. Saudi Arabia has also reportedly requested additional air-defense assistance from several countries as it faces shortages of missile interceptors. The developments highlight the complex U.S. position of supporting the Saudi-backed Yemeni government while maintaining diplomatic contacts with the Houthis.
