The US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Dominance Financing (EDF) issued a conditional commitment for up to $263 million to SHINE Chrysalis, LLC, to support the construction of Chrysalis, a high-volume medical isotope production facility in Janesville, Wisconsin. The facility will produce molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) using fusion and fission technology, creating the first domestic commercial supply of this critical isotope used in over 40,000 daily US medical procedures.

The project, 75% complete, is expected to create hundreds of jobs, advance the American nuclear workforce, and reduce reliance on imported Mo-99. The loan is conditional, pending technical, legal, environmental, and financial approvals.

DOE sees the project as key to energy security, nuclear medicine innovation, and national supply chain resilience.
