Maersk is updating its India-North America service by adding Mundra, India, and replacing Algeciras, Spain, with Morocco’s Tanger Med port, as reported by North Africa Post.
The Danish maritime transport giant has announced a significant route modification for its India-United States service, a change aimed at enhancing service quality by reducing transit times.
In a strategic move to improve its India-North America service, Maersk’s MECL service will add a stop at Mundra, India, while simultaneously discontinuing its westbound call at the port of Algeciras in southern Spain. Morocco’s Tanger Med port will replace Algeciras as the new stopover point.
According to a post on the carrier’s page, this adjustment will result in an average five-day improvement in transit times from India, Pakistan, and the Middle East to the United States East Coast. […]
It’s worth noting that Tanger Med port ranked fourth in the global Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) for 2023. In this ranking, compiled by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, the Moroccan port facility outperformed all African and European ports for the second consecutive year.
China’s Yangshan port leads the CPPI ranking, followed by Salalah (Oman) and Cartagena (Colombia), with Malaysia’s Tanjung Pelepas port completing the top five highest-performing ports.
