According to Freddie Mac, the average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage increased slightly to 6.69% for the week ending August 6, 2026, up from 6.66% the previous week and 6.63% a year earlier. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage edged down to 6.01% from 6.04% the prior week but remained above last year’s 5.75%.

Freddie Mac said that while elevated mortgage rates continue to weigh on housing affordability, the market is showing signs of adjustment. Listing prices are modestly lower than a year ago, and the supply of homes for sale has improved compared with the limited inventory seen in recent years.
