Major Wall Street firms, including Point72 Asset Management, Two Sigma Investments, and Citadel, were targeted in a wave of attempted cyberattacks. Reuters reports that the attackers used social engineering and phone-based scams to impersonate trusted individuals and try to steal employee login credentials.
Point72 said it detected an attempted attack but found no evidence that client data was compromised. Cybersecurity experts said financial firms remain attractive targets because of the sensitive data they hold, and AI is making phishing and voice-based attacks increasingly convincing and difficult to detect.
