Atlas Energy Solutions announced a major expansion of its autonomous trucking operations in the Permian Basin through its partnership with Kodiak AI. The company is adding a second simultaneous load-out point along its 42-mile Dune Express sand conveyor system, enabling driverless trucks to deliver proppant from two locations in Texas and New Mexico. Atlas and Kodiak also plan to grow the autonomous fleet from 28 driverless trucks as of March 31, 2026, to 100 by mid-2027, with operations on public roads expected to begin in early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
The expansion builds on the companies’ growing commercial deployment of autonomous logistics. Atlas’s driverless fleet has completed approximately 7,000 deliveries, hauled more than 450,000 tons of sand, and logged over 23,500 autonomous operating hours in the first quarter of 2026. The companies also highlighted the world’s first autonomous triple-trailer trucking operation, capable of hauling more than 135 tons, underscoring their efforts to improve efficiency, productivity, and scalability in oilfield logistics.
