Vice President JD Vance said the US and Iran failed to reach a peace agreement after 21 hours of negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan. Vance said the main obstacle was Iran’s refusal to make a firm commitment to permanently abandon nuclear weapons development.
The US delegation, which included Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, warned that military action remains possible if diplomacy fails, according to ABC News. Key issues in the talks included Iran’s uranium enrichment, sanctions relief, regional conflicts involving Hezbollah, and control of the Strait of Hormuz. Despite a fragile ceasefire, tensions remain high as both sides accused each other of violating conditions for peace negotiations.
