NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. announced continued progress in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) review of its KRONOS MMR™ microreactor project at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The NRC accepted the Construction Permit Application on May 18, 2026, and began its formal review on June 23, 2026. NANO Nuclear and the university continue to respond to technical questions and provide additional information as part of the ongoing regulatory audit.

The NRC’s current schedule targets draft environmental and safety evaluations in February 2027, a final Environmental Assessment in May 2027, and a final Safety Evaluation in September 2027. NANO Nuclear continues to target initial construction activities in the second half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other project requirements. The company is also developing additional microreactor technologies, nuclear fuel capabilities, nuclear transportation services, and potential space-based nuclear applications.

Continued regulatory progress marks an important step toward advancing the KRONOS MMR™ from development to construction and demonstration. However, the project has not yet received final construction approval and remains subject to NRC review, potential delays, and technical requirements. The next key milestones are completing the ongoing audit, publishing the scheduled regulatory evaluations, and issuing the required construction permit.
