U.S. natural gas imports from Canada averaged 8.6 billion cubic feet per day in 2025, up 1% from 2024, while the value of imports jumped 52%. US natural gas exports to Canada also increased, with volumes rising 4% and export value climbing 77% to $2.6 billion. Most natural gas trade continues through cross-border pipelines.
Electricity trade remained smaller compared with other energy sources, totaling $3.2 billion in 2025, with Canada supplying about two-thirds of U.S. electricity imports. A new transmission line that began operating in 2026 could increase future electricity flows between the two countries.
