According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration is planning a temporary suspension of the Jones Act—a century-old US maritime law that mandates domestic shipping between US ports be conducted on American-built and crewed vessels—in an effort to help curb rising oil prices.
This waiver is aimed at increasing the availability of ships to transport fuel domestically, easing distribution bottlenecks, and helping to stabilize energy costs amid broader market disruptions.
The move follows pressure on energy markets from geopolitical tensions, including conflict in the Middle East, and reflects the administration’s efforts to address consumer fuel prices.
