Are you working with a fiduciary? If not, why? It could be one of the best decisions you make when you decide you need help managing your money.

There are all kinds of reasons why you may want to seek help with your money—it’s become too much to handle, you don’t have time or the interest in doing it, and many more. But when you do need help, it might make sense to hire a fiduciary because he’s required by law to act in your best interests.

The other reason is that you, my valued reader, may not have the emotional strength to do what may be right on your own behalf. We tend to hang on tighter the more we have.

It’s sort of a Jedi trick, letting go, because letting go is hard. And then there’s your retirement life. Is there anything more dangerous than a recently retired 65-year-old spending all his time trading stocks? Is there anything more annoying than speaking with one? It’s a toss-up.

Sometimes it takes help from someone who has seen it all to see the light. To help keep you calm while others are not, and to help you realize your risk tolerance before it’s too late.

Action Line: It’s hard to let go. “Do or do not, there is no try.” Email me at ejsmith@yoursurvivalguy.com when you want to talk to a fiduciary. And click here to subscribe to my free monthly Survive & Thrive letter.
