You’re Telling Your Survival Guy This and More…

May 18, 2021 By E.J. Smith

You’re telling Your Survival Guy about your recent fly fishing float trip to Wyoming, where your guide said, “We don’t wear masks around here.” Yet another reason I love the big, red, Cowboy State of Wyoming. Contrast Wyoming with NYC, and you realize the importance of having some space to move around.

The same client tells me he booked a summer house on the Cape months ago but said it was a challenge booking for the fall. Your Survival Guy’s take: Welcome to the extended summer vacation and the extended spending to follow. But will the tap be dry this time next year?

You’re telling me about Helen, GA, and how it feels like a charming Bavarian town in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Hearing about it reminds me of the Swiss Chalets Village Inn near North Conway, NH. Can’t wait to get up to our log cabin in the White Mountains this summer. If you’re in New England, be sure to look me up.

Another client shares the logistical challenge of getting out of town, securing a rental car, the house, and pet sitter, to name a few items on the checklist. There’s a lot of moving parts and limited supply.

  • Yes, inflation is a tax on everyone.
  • But inflation and low interest rates are a tax on SAVERS.
  • The Forgotten Man—successful, men and woman, family first, Americans are holding this country together.

P.S. You’ll see a massive migration of people this summer. From The Boston Globe:

The U.S. News & World Report’s survey of the best vacation destinations for 2021-2022 is sprawling, covering top getaways across the globe. But one common denominator pops up throughout the survey, at least in the lists that focus on US destinations: New England is a favorite among travelers and editors of the publication, particularly Bar Harbor and Boston.

Bar Harbor landed in the number 16 spot in the top places to visit in the United States. (Grand Canyon was number one). But it ranked first in the category of Best Small Towns to visit in the United States, followed by Telluride, Colo., and Jackson Hole, Wyo.

“Bar Harbor is basically a postcard that has found its way into the real world,” the survey reads.

Boston came in at number 19 on the Best Places to Visit in the United States list, along with number 10 in Best Family Summer Vacations, 13 in Best Family Vacations, and 14 in Best Cheap Summer Vacations.
