When you graduate from work to retirement, there are boxes that need to be checked, and if youโre moving, unpacked. One of those boxes is choosing the right custodian of your money in retirement.
Your Survival Guy likes Fidelity Investments. To this day, Fidelity is family run and owned and is not under the heel of Wall Streetโs demands to meet short-term quarterly earnings expectations. It therefore has the freedom to run its business with the future in mind.
And when it comes to Dick Youngโs history with Fidelity it goes back decades.

Also, if youโre a client, all you need to do is call Your Survival Guy for help. You will speak to me. I promise you, you will not get tangled up in the branches of a phone tree.
โHey, Survival Guy, arenโt all custodians the same?โ you ask. Not necessarily. Yes, when youโre young, you donโt worry too much about your custodian. If you participate in a company 401(k), itโs already chosen for you unless you choose to self-direct it. You just save and save and save, do your job, and think about retirement later.
But when later becomes today, you need to worry about stuff like who your custodian is. Which brings me to that awful word: worry.
No one wants to worry about their money. Unfortunately, thatโs easier said than done. Emotions and worry about money build because of two things: One, youโre dealing with more money than you have ever had, and two, you no longer receive a paycheck. Those are gut wrenching concerns.
Do not take this the wrong way, but Your Survival Guy doesnโt get emotional about other peopleโs money. I take it dead seriously. I donโt have time to worry. I spend the time it requires listening to you and understanding what youโre looking for.
Thatโs the type of relationship you want to have with your money guy, donโt you think? Not worrying about your custodian, but how your goals will be met.
