On Thursday, November 30, Fox News and the station’s primetime personality, Sean Hannity, will host a debate between California Governor Gavin Newsom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Isabella Simonetti explains the debate in The Wall Street Journal, writing:

They aren’t running against each other. Still, Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom will take their fiery feud to Fox News this week in a debate moderated by Sean Hannity, offering up a head-to-head that stretches the boundaries of traditional political programming.

After trading barbs in the media for more than a year over issues from Covid-era restrictions to immigration, DeSantis, the governor of Florida, and Newsom, his California counterpart, are scheduled to face off for 90 minutes on Thursday in Georgia.

In an interview, Hannity—who came up with the idea—described Newsom and DeSantis as “two of the biggest, most interesting governors in the country and they have diametrically opposed political views, visions for how to run their states.”

Fox News and other cable networks air plenty of debates and town halls featuring candidates. Because Newsom and DeSantis aren’t running for the same job, the Nov. 30 event is more akin to cable’s version of an Ultimate Fighting Championship bout for politicians—taking an interesting fight happening outside the core election race and putting a spotlight on it.

Florida sits near the top of Your Survival Guy’s Super States at number 2, while California comes in at 49. While Florida’s freedom and low taxation put it near the pinnacle of Your Survival Guy’s Super States, California’s heavy regulations and taxation bury it among the very worst, known as the “Escape States.”

Debates are not always won or lost on the merits of the arguments, so don’t put too much emphasis on what’s said during the faceoff. But take a hard look at the results produced by the different philosophies used to govern both California and Florida and compare them to what’s happening in your state.

Action Line: If you find yourself in a state where the government is led by politicians working harder for themselves than they are for you, it may be time to look for a better America.
