Here, hpematter.co explains the enormous lifetime security risks of social media. Social media’s dark side: It isn’t just the vast amount of personally identifiable information (PII) that’s there that makes it a treasure trove for hackers and other criminals. It is also that the shared information may be around forever. Social media sites use terabyte upon terabyte of storage right now, which is expected to increase, said Mark Painter, security evangelist with Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The PII gathered is too valuable to discard. Too many people use social media for digital … [Read more...]

Microsoft Innovating/Apple Struggling to Innovate
MIT Technology Review looks at the innovation differences between Microsoft and Apple. Amazon Projects 4th Q Revenues of $42/45 Billion

The company predicts heavy investments will continue through the rest of the year. Amazon opened 23 warehouses worldwide to fill orders since July, after opening just three in the first half of the … [Read more...]

In 2015 Americans returned $260.5 billion worth of retail merchandise. That's an astonishing 8% of total sales. Much of that returned inventory can't simply be placed back on the shelf. If unsealed or broken, it can take too long to get items back on the shelf, and ultimately they become a loss for the retailer. But there is new technology on the rise that could stem at least some of the tsunami of returns plaguing retailers. The technology is called "augmented reality," and it allows customers to see versions of possible purchases in their home, even before buying them. Randy Rieland … [Read more...]
