The U.S. Department of Energy says President Trump’s energy policies are driving a “Great American Energy Comeback,” with the United States reaching record levels of oil and natural gas production. The department says U.S. oil production reached 13.6 million barrels per day in 2025, while natural gas production is projected to reach a record 122.5 billion cubic feet per day in 2026.
In the Permian Basin in West Texas, crude oil production has increased by roughly 250% since 2015. The region now accounts for nearly half of U.S. crude oil production and more than one-fifth of the country’s natural gas supply.
The Energy Department also credits the administration’s policies with expanding U.S. LNG exports and supporting economic growth in energy-producing regions. In Midland, the population has grown 11% since 2020, while Texas upstream oil and gas employment increased by 4,100 jobs through May 2026.
