The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that US petroleum exports reached a record 13.6 million barrels per day (b/d) in April, driven by increased global demand following disruptions to crude oil and refined product shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. The April total was 15% higher than the previous record set in March.

Crude oil accounted for the largest share of exports at 5.6 million b/d, a record high and 21% above the previous peak in December 2023. Propane exports exceeded 2.0 million b/d for the first time, while distillate fuel oil exports rose to 1.6 million b/d, the highest level since July 2017. Exports of finished petroleum products also reached their strongest level since December 2024, and shipments of jet fuel, unfinished oils, and naphtha remained near record highs. Weekly estimates indicate that exports of crude oil, distillate fuel, jet fuel, and propane stayed above seasonal averages through May and June.
