Are you in control of Your Retirement Life? In my conversations with you, you tell me you are in control and then some. You tell me you’re looking forward to getting away to places far and wide, from Disney to New Zealand and on cruises in between. Nice. You know Your Survival Guy’s a big proponent of spending money. Yes, live within your means, but please, you gotta live.

If you’re a member of my Survive and Thrive Club, you know Your Survival Guy is looking forward to an Atlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2. It ain’t free, and inflation is alive and well, but as my mom reminds me, “I used to buy five candy bars for a nickel. Inflation has been around forever.” Some would say it’s our national pastime.

And what about that big brother government shrinking your dollars? What has it done for you lately? How about sugar, for example? Turns out it’s the new smoking—seems they were a little late on both, don’t you think? With help like theirs, maybe it’s a good time to own some gold as a hedge. The last thing anyone in government wants is to practice any kind of discipline, especially when it comes to your money.

Yes, life goes on. And you need to continue to have fun. And you’re doing it by being creative with your spending. I was fortunate enough to have a mother who taught me how to pinch pennies and who still enjoys getting a “great deal!” sometimes as much as the trip itself. Like a wise man once said, it’s about the journey, not the destination.

Action Line: You know all of this already. But don’t believe it’s intuitive, because if it were everyone would be doing it. They’re not. You know how to live life. You appreciate the finer things and buy them on your terms. It’s a big world out there. Enjoy it. Cheers! When you’re ready to tell me about your adventures, I’m here.
